I really need to keep up with my blog more. The one piece of advice I hear over and over from writers who have "made it" is to write. A lot and a blog is a good way to get in the habit of putting something down, whether you feel you have something to say or not. One of the writing sites I frequent has a daily flash fiction challenge where there is a daily prompt of three random words and the requirements of setting, conflict, resolution and at least one character in 300 words or less.
Tonight's words are drink, twist and storm. Word count 128.
Annie swirled the remnants of her fifth vodka martini-twist, no olive. She was starting to get the feeling he wasn’t going to make it. She motions to let the bartender know she’ll take another drink. It was a hotel bar after all and Annie wasn’t going anywhere with that storm outside. Bloody monsoon season. She glanced down at her cell hoping a voicemail would magically appear even though it hadn’t buzzed all night. Her boss had been “most insistent” she deliver the package before seven and his firings tended to end with at least one severed appendage. Annie downed martini number six, slipped some of the local currency under her empty glass and headed out to find him. Better rain drops than blood.
